Getting there
Situated in the legendary Galle Fort, a living world heritage site, this beautiful villa lies in the heart of the fort. It is 115km from Colombo and with a short drive, has access to some of the best beaches in the world.
Atmosphere
This large house has been recently renovated and is unique. Entering through the large teak door you step onto black and white tiles saved from the previous owner. A clever use of archways guides your gaze to the large pool, garden and pagoda. The sitting and indoor dining room with a lime wash timber ceiling lead onto the terrace in front of the pool. The kitchen and bedrooms are housed in a second building designed with glazed windows running its length. High ceilings throughout.
Rooms and facilities
3 double air conditioned suites. 2 upstairs and 1 downstairs overlooking the pool. All bedrooms have ensuite. The master has a large copper tub.
Dining and common areas
A comfortable sitting area inside the house or by the pool on sun loungers. As the sun goes down the pagoda provides an ideal spot to watch the changing light.
Two dining tables to choose from. One inside for more formal or when it is too hot to use the outside one.
A modern kitchen overlooking the pool. The hopuse is offered ona self catering basis but a cook can be arranged and paid for separately. The house boy lives in and will help with breakfast and other meals as well as do the shopping for you if you wish. A room girl comes daily and will make the rooms as well as any clothes washing you may have.
Things to see and do
Galle Fort is like no where else in Sri Lanka . Enter through the 'new' English gate or the 'old' Dutch gate and enter a different country. Renovated Dutch architecture of some of the 600 odd houses crowd the narrow streets in this 90 acre Fort. Largely built by the Dutch during the 18 century the Fort is another of Sri Lanka's World Heritage sites. The Ramparts are used for romantic strolls as well as early morning power walks as well - of course - for local 'village' cricket games. They also provide an excellent vantage point to capture the atmosphere of an international test match. At the time of writing a number of restaruants and hotels are planned - shops too are coming with everything from interior and gift items to clothes. The Fort, and indeed Galle, remains the traditional home of jewellery design and gem shops. In all a shoppers delight. The Fort has a number of small beaches that are suitable for morning swims whilst the sunbathing beaches are between 5-7km away.
