Getting there
Situated in the legendary Galle Fort, a living world heritage site, this beautiful villa lies in the heart of the fort. It is 115km from Colombo and with a short drive, has access to some of the best beaches in the world.
Atmosphere
Built in the early 1800s this family home, originally occupied by a merchant and his mistress has recently undergone a complete transformation courtesy its New York based owners. Many of the original features have been restored and when combined with an eclectic mix of modern and traditional features the overall feel is of a comfortable family retreat. A cool green sided pool in the courtyard provides the focal point to this stylish house whilst the west facing roof terrace offers a magnificent view over the Dutch ramparts and spectacular evening scenes as the sun slides into the Indian Ocean . With an additional terrace off the master bedroom, a family TV room, and three separate living areas there are plenty of spaces to escape to a peaceful corner or relax with a sundowner after a hard days surfing and sun bathing at the nearby beaches.

All 3 bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with showers. There is a guest bathroom located on the ground floor.
Dining and common areas
A study / reading area is located in the entrance hall. Large and comfortable sofas are located in the main living area that opens onto the dining area. In addition to around the courtyard pool there are deep chairs on the roof terraces and on that rare 'rainy afternoon' there is the Satellite TV/ DVD room with huge beanbags.
Whilst breakfast can be taken on the roof terrace a fabulous locally made teak table can be set for up to 12 for more formal dining.
Surrounded by plants and shaded the pool offers a perfect cooling off dip at any time and especially upon returning from a day of sun on the beach. With a bench seat incorporated in the design you are able to quench thirst as well as cool off at the same time.
A fully equipped and modern kitchen is the domaine of Arshad, the cook. He is capable of producing excellent western dishes as well as wicked curries - you may like to ask for chilllies to be on the side. He lives-in the house in separate accommodation. A room-lady who comes daily is also at your service. Indeed all the Eden Villas team will work together to ensure you have a fabulous stay as our guests.
Breakfast of fruits, tea, coffee, toast and jams is provided for in the price but all other meals are for your account. Discuss your preferences with Arshad and either provide him with sufficient cash and instructions and he will shop for you or go to the daily fish or and fruit and veg markets yourself. We recommend you go at least once as the experience can be fun as well as discovering what is avaialble. There is a small supermarket in town as well as the village-shop around the corner in the Fort.
Things to see and do
Take a drive to the Unawatuna Beach and have a day on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Laze around in the villa, sink in a couch with a book on the large open spaces in the villa or have a dip in the pool.
Galle Fort is like no where else in Sri Lanka . Enter through the 'new' English gate or the 'old' Dutch gate and enter a different country. Renovated Dutch architecture of some of the 600 odd houses crowd the narrow streets in this 90 acre Fort. Largely built by the Dutch during the 18 century the Fort is another of Sri Lanka 's World Heritage sites. The Ramparts are used for romantic strolls as well as early morning power walks as well - of course - for local 'village' cricket games. They also provide an excellent vantage point to capture the atmosphere of an international test match. At the time of writing a number of restaruants and hotels are planned - shops too are coming with everything from interior and gift items to clothes. The Fort, and indeed Galle , remains the traditional home of jewellery design and gem shops. In all a shoppers delight. The Fort has a number of small beaches that are suitable for morning swims whilst the sunbathing beaches are between 5-7km away.
