Hideaway
The Hideaway, situated in the village of Wathuregama, is an hour’s drive from the airport just 36 km from Katunayake. Set on 5 acres of lush greenery it is a perfect place to relax and unwind after a long flight. The drive to Hideaway itself is a beautiful experience, passing long stretches of paddy and coconut and a number of colonial bungalows known as Walauwas.
Hideaway is an 85-year-old Walauwa, now refurbished and decorated with a modern yet aesthetic touch. It is essential that it be described in close connection to its large garden. The garden is abundant in tropical fruits (especially juicy Pineapples), vegetables and coconut palms. The villa is self sufficient in organic local vegetation and you will be eating freshly garden picked vegetables and fruits throughout your stay in Hideaway. The Manager, Mr. De Olivera will give you gunny bags full to take away with you if you like…
The villa is a mix of colonial charm and contemporary sophistication. Beautifully refurbished and tastefully decorated to calm your senses, the place is a perfect hideaway from the world left behind. You are free to do as you please and live as you like for the next few days…
The Hideaway comprises of two suites and one double room, all three, spacious, elegant and luxurious. The bathrooms are fit for a king! The suite- room bathrooms are open air and have private Jacuzzi's, offering maximum comfort. The villa is ideal for a family of five or six or a party of friends. It is also excellent for a honeymoon couple, as the villa will be all to yourself and you can enjoy full privacy.
The rooms are equipped with a set up for listening pleasure and a mini bar. Wathuregama is a cool village set in lush tropical forestry and village atmosphere and therefore do not require airconditioning in rooms. The staff are extremely friendly yet discrete. You will only notice them if you need them !
Dining can be in the dining area inside the villa or outside. Dinner, subject to weather conditions, is always served in the beautiful dining area behind the villa with candles surrounding you.
There is an in-house bar and an excellent stock of movie DVD’s and paperback novels, so you might want to stay put inside and enjoy but do make time to take a walk in the hotels nature trail, a 10-minute walk around the immediate garden filled with vegetation. You can opt to borrow a cycle or take a longer walk on the surrounding paddy fields and village or arrange a bullock cart ride to the market. The villa also consist of a gym.
Things to see and do
Hideaway, as the name suggests is the perfect hideaway. You can do nothing at all and simply relax and unwind with a good book or movie and be spoiled and pampered by the great service offered by the staff.
You can enjoy your private Jacuzzi , sing karaoke from an extensive collection of karaoke songs or take a nature trail around the garden.
Alternatively work out at the gym or play a game of pool.
Arrange a nature trail in the surrounding paddy fields and village.
Trek to the Maligathanne Temple, Varana Temple and Pilikuttuwa Temple or engage in some hard core adventure; abseiling, caving or mountain biking.
Get the local Ayurvedic doctor to give you a relaxing Ayurvedic massage.
Take a bullock cart ride to the market.
