‘The Malabar House', is located in the historic capital and port city of Galle, 125 km from Colombo, a four hour drive, situated within the precincts of the Galle Dutch Fort,.This British owned townhouse was recently restored to a luxury private villa with a charming courtyard and a large swimming pool.It is a perfect Romantic hideaway for honeymooners or for small families with children.
Atmosphere
‘ The Malabar House' consist of 3 Air-conditioned double bedrooms with attached bathrooms. Each room has been tastefully furnished with pieces from all over Asia , luxuriously designed with ensuite Master bedroom upstairs and the other bedrooms downstairs facing the pool and courtyard. The downstairs double room has a small room off it with DBL bunk beds for 2 kids.
The steps in the courtyard lead up to the large Roof terrace for sunbathing, watch the sun go down over the ocean or dining. The high walls allow gentle sea breeze to flow through the house providing shelter from the mid day heat.
The Malabar House will accept guests for long stays of minimum one week. Generous discounts are offered for 3 weeks stay or longer
Rooms and facilities
The Villa has a dining area for 08 persons and a comfortable sitting area for 10 persons.
The Villa is rented on a Room only basis and does not have a restaurant or bar. The Villa is well equipped with a modern kitchen with all amenities for cooking their own food. The guest may provide the funds to the maid to purchase all food items like fresh fruits, juice, toast, butter, jams, eggs, tea and coffee. A cook could be arranged if required for an additional payment. He will cook whatever the guest suggests. The fish and fruits market is nearby- just outside the gates of the Fort.
If the guest want to go it alone they could cook for themselves.
The guests are expected to bring their own liquor and beverages. There is a supermarket in the nearby town and the guests could avail themselves to purchase their own liquor and beverages.
If the guest wishes to taste other local or continental food, there are plenty of local restaurants and bars within walking distance of the villa.
Things to see and do
You could simply relax and unwind, watch the spectacular sunset from the the roof terrace
Take a dip in the villa swimming pool or the nearby sandy beach.
You could explore the magnificient Galle Dutch Fort declared a world heritage site by the UNESCO, still alive, retaining the romantic old world charm, with its rows of old Dutch styled houses along narrow alley ways, the streets with the same old Dutch names, the Dutch Reformed church, the Dutch museum, the rows of antique shops are among the highlights.
You could take a stroll in the Galle city outside the Fort, visit the Fish market and the bazaar area, watch the local life style, shop for gems, jewellery, local batiks and handicraft
Do a tour of Unawatuna which is just 6 km away, voted as ‘ the prettiest bay in the world ' with safe swimming, surfing, great restaurants and snorkelling . Diving also could be arranged from here.
Do a boat ride in the Koggala lake with its many islands and is a popular spot for bird watching A visit to a Turtle hatchery and many more
