Just off the main road from Robolgoda, Bentota down a by-lane is the Taprobana, a luxury boutique style hotel exotic in style. It is just an hour's drive from Colombo but provides a perfect base to explore our southern culture and enjoy the sandy beaches.

Atmosphere

The concept itself is one mixed with Sri Lankan and Mediterranean styles although the interiors carry the colonial heritage of Sri Lanka in its antique splendor. The open pool pavilion, the magnificent pool and open dining areas contribute greatly to its atmosphere.The beach across the railway line is no doubt one of its greatest assets. What inspires most about this extraordinary property is a sense of wellness and calmness it creates within you to bring youn in harmony with the sound of the crashing waves, the beautiful tropical garden and its luxurious interiors.

Rooms and facilities

Taprobana has nine rooms in offer where most of them are airconditioned. All are spacious, luxury rooms with ensuite bathrooms and hot water showers. Each room has its own balcony or terrace overlooking Lily ponds or the garden and its tall coconut palms. The atmosphere is filled with a romantic touch, which makes Taprobana perfect for honeymooners. The rooms are delightfully decorated with soothing colours and create a living experience of tropical Asian lifestyles.

It may seem like time stands still while tranquility and well being fills you in all its glory..

Enjoy the attention to detail as you enter the bathroom and find piles of fluffy white towels or the scented candles that welcome you to bed or the interiors designed to blend in harmony to help you relax. You can stay all day in bed and order from the room service menu, if you so decide to hibernate for a day or two.

Dining and common areas

Dining area is a beautiful yet simple open to the pool area able to give you views of practically the entire property. The Manager, Alfred and staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive to your needs, so don't be surprised if you're inquired on your individual dietary requirements. Taprobana offers a deliciously sumptuous cuisine and takes great pride in their menu selection. Don't forget to try the great seafood cuisines to complete your beach holiday.

Things to see and do

• Sip a cocktail while taking in the tropical climate and sounds of the ocean breeze or stroll down the sandy beach.Enjoy the waters of the refreshingly welcoming pool or simply relax in your own private verandah/balcony.
• Visit the Brief Garden created by Bewis Bawa or take a day trip to Galle and visit the living World Heritage Site.
• Arrange a boat ride down Madu ganga
• Relax with a book in the lounge terrace
• Visit the local markets and antique shops. You will find the famous devil masks in the souvenir shops in the area.
• Have a day on the beach.
• Go surfing in Hikkaduwa
• You can also arrange for a massage by a local Ayurvedic masseur.
