The Rangala House, is situated in an enchanting location in the Knuckles Forest Region, a 50 minute drive by car from Kandy , through Digana, Teldeniya near Duckwari Tea Estate. 
Atmosphere
RANGALA HOUSE is a tea-planter's bungalow converted to a top class luxury villa. The scenery is spectacular, being located at an altitude of 1000 metres above sea level, the weather wonderfully temperate for much of the year, the climate cool and fresh, with panoramic views of the misty mountains of Hantana on the South and the Knuckles mountains to the North and North East.
Being away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the wild rustic environment around, will provide a true sense of tranquility and peace of mind for the stressed, and strenuously busy life style back at home.
A romantic hideaway for nature lovers, bird watchers, and honeymooners alike, it provides a perfect base for those who are interested in exploring the rich diversity, flora and fauna around consisting of the Sambhur, barking deer, mouse deer, wild boar, giant squirrel, the toque monkeys, if a bit lucky you may sight the leopard an endangered specy and a host of lizards including the Tennet's Horned lizard..
Rooms and facilities
The Villa consists of three double bedrooms, tastefully furnished, all en suite. It is ideally suited for 06 guests but could be arranged for another two. It is usually let on a full Villa let basis' exclusively for the use of the guests for a minimum period of 6 nights. Generous discounts for long stays of over 6 nights.
It has a large living and spacious dining area with stone built fireplace, satellite TV, DVD player. For music lovers, there is a high quality music system and a Roland electric piano.
The 50 ft verandah offers a panoramic view ideally suited for reading, writing, lounging, eating or simply gazing. For laptop users, access to internet and email is available.
It has a well equipped modern European style kitchen with six-ring gas cooker, microwave, two fridges, filter water etc.
There is a resident cook who can prepare all meals. You are free to do your own cooking or learn to prepare authentic Sri Lankan curries by working in the kitchen with the cook.
Housekeeping and kitchen staff at your disposal, for all cleaning, laundry services, cooking and kitchen services for all meals.
Either way, you only pay for the food, drinks and provisions, which we can buy locally for you.The fridges will be stocked with food and drink when you arrive.
The Rangala House has an attractive solar heated swimming pool (20 x 40 foot). The gardens are steeply sloped and a stream runs through providing fresh water for the fish pond. It also has a spice garden, fruit trees including avocado, breadfruit, banana, mango, rambuttan, papaya etc.
Things to see and do
Relax and unwind or simply TAKE IT EASY . The swimming pool is a year-round delight and you can lounge on the patio or snooze on the shady verandah.
The Tea estate at the back of the house offers delightful strolls or longer walks, as you wish. The views are glorious and the locals very friendly.
The Duckwari tea factory (a gentle twenty minute walk away) is not geared for tour parties but they will willingly show you round.
EXCURSIONS to Deenstone Park and 'Mini World's End' could be arranged or perhaps take the 4X4 up to Corbett's Gap for the views across the Knuckles to the North. There are plenty of other enjoyable day trips.
A drive to Kandy by a scenic mountain route (about 2 hours), a visit to the sacred tooth temple, a stroll by the Kandy lake,a visit to the market and bazaar area, shopping for gems, arts and crafts are among the highlights.
BIRDWATCHING- numerous species of birds can be seen and the Knuckles region is famous for the richness of its bird life
For those who take their WALKING seriously, there are numerous options offering glorious hill-walking. The staff will gladly take you to convenient starting points further up the mountain or pick you up elsewhere at the end of the day. Local guides can be found, though this needs to be fixed up in advance. (Dedicated walkers will already know about the importance of appropriate footwear - socks and walking boots. In the forest reservation, the leeches can be tiresome and an encounter with a snake or scorpion, while highly unlikely, must be considered.)
VICTORIA GOLF COURSE is just 40 minutes away from Rangala House. It is worth a visit even if you are not a golfer, for the setting is superb glorious, green, palm-dotted fairways next to the lovely Victoria Lake, with a backdrop of mountains beyond. The course is of international standard and is gaining a reputation as one of the most attractive and well maintained courses in South Asia . The clubhouse is a very pleasant spot for a drink and lunch.
